Bont of course, Libba, Daniel, Hunter, Macrae, Naughton
That is it.
My stance on talls stems from the times I have watched our club play footy and we have had very few GOOD talls playing for us over the years.FFC: Established 1883

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
I'm open to trading English in terms of the hypothetical.
He's not a ruck. He can spend some minutes as a ruck, but he's really a forward. I think he's OK as a forward, but his lack of intensity is a HUGE hurdle. He's basically a taller version of Schache.
Problem is, he's important to us because Bruce is gone and we use mids in the ruck.
As BT says, it depends what we can get but it's hard to imagine we get what we need (i.e. not draft picks).
I think forward/rucks are hard to find and would much prefer we keep him. I don't want us to be an incubator then trade players out just as they are hitting thier straps.
I'd much prefer us to put 2022 picks on the table for positions of need. Heck, we could sign Lynch for nothing after the Crows delisted him.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

The question was asked as untouchable. I can add a lot more, but if we could get a top line ruckman, then I would listenFFC: Established 1883

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
I’m firming for an affordable Small Forwar:
Who: Jamaine Jones
12 Games WCE
7 Games GEEL
——
19 Games Total
22yo
180cm
82kg
3.00 seconds over 20m
Status: Out of Contract 2021.
Issue: Depth player if Willie Rioli is preferred next year.
Why: Having a good run of games and doing well. Very quick and we are pumping speed into our forward 50. Add speed, preparedness to tackle, uses the ball really well and finishes well (see below).
Why us: Country Victorian including schooling around Ballarat and U/18 North Ballarat Rebels. Was to play at Footscray VFL before WCE used their last list spot on him.
Cost: Shouldn’t be too much.
2021 Stats: Not a huge accumulator for touches, but this year about a goal a game with great tackle and pressure numbers:
Kicks - 5.3
Handballs - 3.1
Disposals - 8.4
Disp. Eff. - 81%
Marks - 1.8
Marks I50 - 0.4
Goals - 0.9
Goal Assists - 0.4
Behinds - 0.2
Score Inv. - 3.7
Intercepts - 1.7
Tackles - 3.9
Tack I50 - 1.2
Inside 50s - 2.1
Rebound 50s - 0.8
On the weekend, he had 8 Tackles & 25 Pressure Acts. I’m not sure any of our small forwards clocked up 8 Tackles & 25 Pressure Acts this year. As a comparison on 2021 averages, Jones has over double the tackles than JJ, nearly double tackles I50 and 1/3 more goals than JJ. Identical AFL Fantasy Points. Jones would be on an average wage. JJ on $600,000. If we can move JJ for a net trade capital, save big dollars but get more tackles, tackles I50 and goals next year then it seems like a good move.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
Blake Schlensog apparently played well in the WAFL.
Eligible as a DFA as I understand it as a former Cat B rookie at Geelong. Anyone know more about him? Could be a low-cost option for us. 199cm, 99kgs so he's certainly big enough.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
Can we afford to look at a mature small forward?
How many list spots do we have?
Lose Jong, Wallis, Young, Martin, Lipinski, Cavarra, Hayes, Khamis, Sweet at most, maybe one other. The last four are rookies so that leaves us with 5 senior list spots to play with. 3 of them go to the draft (they have to), so we have two spots left. Those two spots are basically the only spots we can attract players into unless they are delisted by other clubs and can then be drafted/rookied.
So Jamaine Jones could be great, but there goes one of our list spots.
Prioties for mine to fill those 2 list spots are:
-A ruckman.
-A key defender
-Maybe a key forward to substitute for Bruce/small forward.
If we fill one of those list spot with hypothetically Jones, it means we are not picking up either an AFL listed ruck or key defender. Sure we can trade someone out, and may have to to get the currency, but not sold there are many likely candidates.
We are not in the position where it would be nice to just grab a speculative small forward anymore, as our neglect of those other positions means they must be filled. We didn't do it last year when we should've and it's coming back to bite us.
Instead of Jones there are a bunch of names we should be looking at that could make a much bigger difference.
Ruck candidates could include Kieran Strachan, Max Lynch, Lloyd Meek, Mabior Chol, Callum Coleman-Jones, Bailey Williams, Rhys Stanley, Matthew Flynn, Brayden Preuss, Ben McEvoy, Darcy Fort, Jon Ceglar, Todd Goldstein, Sam Hayes, Peter Ladhams, Callum Jamieson.
Key defender candidates could include Jake Kolodjashnij, Darcy Gardiner, Joel Hamling, Rory Thompson, Jake Stein, Harrison Petty, Joel Smith, Tom CLurey, Robbie Tarrant, Jarrod Lienert, Kaiden Brand, Lewis Melican, Josh Rotham, Harry Edwards.
Some of them are not good, some of them are, but regardless these lists are who we should be looking at first before going for another unproven and generally low impact small forward to add to Weightman, JJ, McNeill, Scott, Hannan, Garcia.
We could also look to priotise someone to help out in the absence of Bruce, someone like Tom Lynch, Jack Gunston, Jake Riccardi, Zach Sproule, Sam Weideman, Mitch Brown, Sam Reid. Arguably that is a bigger need than Jones.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

We need a ruckman that has a few years left him in as well, not a short term like a Martin.FFC: Established 1883

Tom Lynch not getting a contract next year. As cover for Josh Bruce next year he seems a no-brainer. Decent tank so can also play a hard running lead-up role.
Sammy Power's comments indicate we'll be more pro-active at the trade table next year.
We're in the fortunate position of our 2021 & 2022 first round picks being less valuable to us than other clubs, thanks to Sam Darcy and Croft Jnr. Late picks with a points value are more valuable to us than most clubs too.
I'd have our 2021 first on the table for a points surplus this year, and our 2022 first on the table for a ruck + picks back (ideally, a mixture of 2021 & 2022 picks). I worry we'll end up with Ceglar but hope we get someone better who costs a lot more at the trade table.
I have a suspicion we've all but lined someone up. Sam Power keeps his cards close to his chest, apart from hinting we're going to be more pro-active this year at trade time. For all we know it's a left-field option that nobody has considered yet.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2021 Rolling List Management Discussion
We can simply restructure the list, losing two rookie spots, gaining two primary spots
You had 5 going off the primary list & two spots back on the primary. That’s 7 vacancies.
3-4 trades. 3-4 used at the draft. I want JJ traded. So 4 spots available for trades, 4 spots available for draft.
I think we need a high pressure small forward. I’m comfortable we have scope to look at numerous trades for need.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
