Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Weird article to say the least. Geelong have every right to reach out to opposition players to try and improve their list (as does every club). What shits me about the Cats is the bazillion $$ in tax-payer funds they've received to upgrade their pissant stadium as well as the Cotton On Cats brown paper bags.

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Any one player is capable of being a match winner, the point is, very few are consistent match winners. That's why they're paid accordingly.
There is no way English is worth as much as Bont, or Martin in his prime, Hawkins, Franklin, etc.
Vred summed it up well. How many rucks have actually been consistent match winners? Gawn yep, Cox maybe - there's nobody outside of that. Rucks just shouldn't be paid that much (see Grundy). If the Weagles are willing to blow that much on one player, let 'em.
I still find it hard to understand why West Coast would let Barass go, take an early pick to hit the draft (which they need) but then cough up a ransom for English. It kind of doesn't make sense...W00F!Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
WC strong interest in English would come from the fact that with Nic Nat they've long had a dominant ruck and being a local boy he's a logical target. They'd probably rate the ruck position more than some clubsWestern Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
I am still curious why anyone thinks West Coast would be targeting individual oppo players on big $ deals when it seems 100% obvious that they need MORE draft picks not less draft picks.
I keep reading all of this English for a 'high' pick stuff and I simply don't understand why they would do it.
I know the clubs are far (far) smarter than me, but WHY would they do this? Is it purely because he grew up 4-hours south of Perth and there is a go-home factor?
More appropriate WA-born draft targets for West Coast:
- Adelaide: prob no-one though McAdam would hold interest.
- Brisbane: Robertson. Prior. Maybe Starcevich but I would class him as a Qld-er.
- Carlton: Fisher
- Pies: Darcy Cameron.
- Dons: Guelfe.
- Cats: Prob no-one.
- Suns: Sharp.
- Giants: Taylor (of course).
- Hawks: Granger-Barrass,
- Dees: Rivers. Van Rooyen.
- North: Zurhaar
- Port: none really.
- Richmond: Baker, Bolton.
- Sydney: Warner, McDonald, Sheldrick
Basically, there are a heap of them. I would be prioritising players I could offer BIG pay rises - but who would only still be paid middle of the road salaries - and get them for minimal draft capital. I would target Baker HARD (leadership, desperation, sets standards) and Zurhaar (similar reasons) and try and build around these 23-25 year olds...
Paying AUD$1million + to a ruckman to hit the ball to Ellijah Hewitt and Connor West? Yeah...hard pass thanks.
They need to build with culture and effort - they need to bake a cake. They don't need to stick cream on top of the cake they have now...'cos that cake is all burned and sad and no-one wants it.What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

- I think the WC interest in English is genuine. A local boy hitting his prime would be tempting for them and given they're losing one of the greats in Nic Nat it would be received by all in the West as a great move
- With a lot of their players likely to move on they would be in a great position to make a large financial offer and bring a good news story for their supporters and sponsors
- While they have the number one pick that is probably tradeable Tim English alone isn't going to get that deal done. They'll expect English and at least one but more likely our two first rounders coming to them. In the case of getting two first rounders we might get something coming back the other way.
While there has been some trades for early picks in recent years you normally have to pay overs to get them. The Horne-Francis one was huge and complicated and that was with North keen to move him out so they lost a bit of leverage.
I think we need to accept that trading English won't get us pick 1 without a lot more creativity involved.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Really quite bizarre.
Fingers crossed we release something similar on Grundy ...
---------
DOGS REACH OUT TO DEES ON GRUNDY ...
The Western Bulldogs have made contact with Melbourne Demons to assure the club is not pursuing VFL big man Brodie Grundy.
The Herald Sun understands a senior official at the Bulldogs reached out to a colleague at Demonland to ease any fears the Dees had about a rumoured approach from the Dogs.
There were reports the Dogs were actively discussing Grundy but the club has denied it is in the midst of making a play for the $900,000 ruckman.
Grundy, 29, is contracted at the Demons for another FIVE seasons and played a forgettable hand in Casey's comfortable win over the Coburg Lions at Piranha Park last weekend amid much debate about his best position.
Grundy, who looked forlorn at full forward, gathered 12 possessions and a goal along with some personal encouragement from Demons' forward coach Greg Stafford who took time away from his busy weekend dog walking schedule.
Barring an unlikely reprieve the No. 18 pick in the 2012 draft will play his 2nd consecutive VFL match against the Williamstown Seagulls at Casey Fields on Sunday afternoon.BORDERLINE FLYINGComment
