Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Went to the Palace and saw the Uk band "Foals' last night, and it turned out to be one of the best concerts I've attended.
The crowd got really into it, the set list was brialliant (it's hard to leave out songs when you've only released two albums) and the band sounded great, with extended break downs and a really high energy performance.
The stand out however was the singer Yannis. He is this tiny guy (looks like a shetland pony) but just full of energy. At the start he told us he was on painkillers and it soon became apparent why he would need them. He spent alot of time running to the front of the stage and then towards the end of the set got a massive run up and threw himself into the crowd (was a massive jump that only someone his size could do and not kill someone).
Then in the encore he decided to climb up around the side and above the stage (for anyone who knows the Palace he was next to the upper left speaker and started to climb onto the other side of the fence as if he was going to jump. Meanwhile the security guards were trying to hold him back and talk him out of it, and after getting him to the bottom of the stairs he changed his mind and went for it anyway, climbing down the various lighting stands back to stage level. For a while there me and my mates thought we were going to see a very serious injury occur.
But overall it was a brilliant night and I highly reccomend you check them out and see them live next time they tour.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Me too, me too! Been listening to them all day (trying not to mosh at my computer in the office)!
The set list from the Sydney show last night is here:
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell
Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

I can't belive you even need to ask that! Haha. But yes, yes it was.
Also DOTW, noooo, I didn't suffer in the mosh at all. Oh apart from the fact that I have long hair and when people lean on your back, they're pulling your hair. That wasn't good. But I had a huge bloke next to me copping all the crowdsurfers to the head. He was kind of my big block thing, which was convenient for me.Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Going to go see North East House Party tonight, they won or came second in unearthed or something like that.
Music kind of has a relaxed feel, bit of synth thrown in for the hipsters.

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Soundwave yesterday, my 2c take on the day:
Got there just in time to see Monster Magnet - Dave Wyndorf is an old school dude type frontman, did well for an early set. Spacelord had the crowd going, it was a set of hits as Dave loves to play what the crowd want to hear.
Then it was off to see Social Distorition, first tour of Australia for 34 years! They knew how to rock, very tight for an old school punk band, formed "when punk was dangerous" as they announced themselves. Glad to have seen them.
Next it was Primus, and I was finally seeing Les Claypool in the flesh(!). It was a semi-religious experience, he was better live than recorded and they are writing an album now - will definately see them next time they're out. Unbelieveable.
Was to the side of the stage after a drink or two and caught most of Slash's set. Was not a huge Gunners fan, but the energy and the willingness to play the classics (they stuck to the Appetite for Destruction stuff more than anything new or the solo album). It did become a big of a crowd singalong in the end which really works as a festival set. Enjoyable.
After a few drinks, I cought a bit of Slayer (18! Marshall cabinets on stage, technically brilliant but a bit too heavy for my tastes) and One Day as a Lion (Zac from RATM, again too hip hop for my taste). QOTSA were on and I had my dilemma stay for their set (I love Kyuss & early QOTSA) or see Zombie. After the first two songs (off the Album R thank god) I was happy, they then followed with new material which just shows how much they've nosedived as a band since Nick Oliveri's departure.
So I went to see Rob Zombie, expecting little and being utterly blown away by the best frontman I have ever seen bar none. Rob is simply incredible and their set was punctuated by hits that really do need to be played live and loud to be fully appreciated. I went from "I don't mind them" to "oh my god I need to see them again, they are phenominal" in one short set. Simply awesome.
After Zombie I caught the Melvins which were cool (two drumkits used to duel each other insteand of just complement each other, take note Wolf & Cub). Iron Maiden got preachy for me but their stage was huge, then saw the Bronx who are simply a kick arse rock band but by that stage the draw of a 10 minute jog home was too much to resist. I ended up missing F**ked Up who I was planning to see.
All in all the music was possibly the best I have seen at any festival but the festival itself (33k at the showgrounds) was undercatered for the punters. A bit more planning and it could be an epic day.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
