Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones

Just saw the supposed 'leaked' lineup for Soundwave 2011:

Iron Maiden headlining, Queens of the Stone Age, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Slash to name a few......

The Music Network is Australia’s #1 source for music industry news, charts and jobs since 1994.

I've never been to Soundwave. For those who have, are tickets easy to get or do I hope some of these bands do their own concerts? Thanks.

Never been, usally its mainly it's punk and hardcore, but Slayer, Maiden and Primus? I don't like a single other band on that list, but i'd pay a lot of money for that

For those of a certain age and of a certain scene, I've bought tickets to see Sydney band Smudge at the Northcote in October. It's like 1993 all over again.

Also, apparently punk legends the Descendents will be touring for the first time in December. Yes that's right, Milo Goes To Australia. It's like 1983 ALL over again.

Wonder what the kids are listening to?

Only band that appeals to me on the entire lineup.

Can I say do yourself a favour and check out Gang Of Four?

Sure they're another old band getting back together but their album Entertainment is truly a seminal influence on a huge amount of bands.

I'm praying they do a side show.

Make sure you do Sophie. Start with a song called 'Anthrax'. It's one of the best songs to come out of the English punk movement of the late '70s/early '80s.

Sophie, I'm hoping Queens of the Stone Age do a side gig, that'd be awesome. Saw them at the Big Day Out a few years ago - amazing.

Was that the same BDO that The Stooges played at? It was at Princes Park and Franz Ferdinand played as well.

Didn't go last year, but it will be my last chance to ever see Primus live which is just too much to pass up. I'd pay just to see them even if the rest of the festival was made up of Justin Beiber tribute acts.

Monster Magnet were brilliant last year (although I broke my rib in the mosh that gig), QOTSA will be ok if they do plenty of older material (Lullabies to Paralyse was "passable" but really marked their decline - no Nick, no good stuff). Rob Zombie is another attraction for me.

Iron Maiden & Slash will be curiosities for me but not drawcards (although if IM do "Run to the Hill"s or "666: NOTB" I'll be wrapped)

Social D will be good to see live, Stone Sour simply because I've alway liked Corey's voice, The Bronx always play well live, and it will be funny to see the kids cheering for the 50+ crew which seem to make up the majority of the bill (Mad Caddies/Pennywise/Less than Jake and the rest of the 2nd wave Cali-punk of the early 90s).
