Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
i'm going to see U2 in December and will be taking my 12yo son for his first rock concert experience. Saw them in 1993 and they were brilliant so really looking forward to it.Listening to Brahm's 3rd RacketComment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
We got tickets last week through www.preferredseating.com.au
Saw them in September & it was so good we wanted to go again. Standing room on the floor for Sunday 21st November. Roughly $190 per ticket. A little more expensive than usual, but much cheaper than some other sites ($400 per ticket) or ebay which is full of scalpers.
One band I always wanted to see, and I'm glad I'll be doing it now. Given how much they hate each other, who knows when they'll come next?
Would you mind PM'ing me the setlists you've got, just for curiousity's sake?"It's over. It's all over."Comment

On the BDO in '04 they all had their own Tarago's just to get them from the dressing room's to the stage (a journey of a few hundred metres) so they manage to keep seperated when not playing.Park that car

The missus is way less pregnant this time around so we might get closer to the front without potential damage.
No more Kelson in FOTL though and they're a 4 piece now, with a lady playing the bass if rumours are true.Park that car

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
First time I saw them at the NSC they played Lightsabre as an encore but Falco's on record as saying that's the only McClusky song they'd ever play live.
Bought tix last night so I'll be there.
Meanwhile I'm having an internal debate. All time awesome punk legends Descendents, are touring here for the first time ever on the "No Sleep Til" tour. 17 year old me would suicide if he missed seeing them and probably would have organised a road trip to see them in every city. 35 year old me is kind of pissed that the only chance he's ever going to get to see one of his favourite all time bands is going to cost $140 and involve seeing them outside at Flemington at probably 5 in the afternoon.
I'm almost certainly going but there's something about it all I resent slightly.Park that car

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Is it cruel to suggest Andy goes through bassists like Spinal Tap go through drummers?
FOTL aside, might be going to see a mate's band (Lot 56) at the retreat tonight with a few workmates, and have Little Buckley festival next weekend (very hippy weekend) but wont do the Friday/Sudnday night camping like last year.
FRL & Meredith on weekends 1 & 2 of December respectively, have leave already planned due to the recovery required.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
Well I attended the Smashin Pumpkins concert last night, and found it was more like Billy Corgan's night of ego.
Positives were:
-They played for over 2 hours
-They played a variety of songs
-They sound pretty good live
I am however not a massive Pumpkins fan, but do really enjoy all their better known songs, and some of the less known ones. In particular I was hanging out to hear "Disarm" and "1979". Neither of which got a run despite the 2+ hour running tme.
Instead we had a bizzare talking interlude where Billy Corgan just wouldn't shut up. It started out alright, with the whole "we love you and you are the best crowd ever blah blah blah" thing. Then for some reason he got the guitarist to start playing "stairway to heaven", of which he only knew half of the intro. Turns out Billy doesn't know the lyrics anyway. Then he changed it briefly to "Stairway to Brisbane", and proceeded to tell us all how clever he was in doing so. This was met with boo's which lead to him asking us if we liked Brisbane (no), then if Brisbane was in Australia, with him drawing the conclusion it is in NZ.
Then he started talking about how Perth was confusing, then about how they liked Adelaide, but they had no crowd there. Then he started talking about the rugby, and that his roadie had told him NZ were the best side. i tuned out a bit at this point, but did hear a line along the lines of the Australian team being made up of "Skinny white gangly tennis players, that must be why you always lose". He also talked about how no-one in the crowd was dating the hottest woman in Australia (his girlfriend from the Veronica's was there). Then he went on to talk about how good he was. Something like:
"and thank me. Thank me for giving a shit. Thank me for caring. Thank me for having an amazing head".
Then he started interacting with some guy in the crowd. And after this 15 minute iterlude they went back to playing, and he barely said a word again.
And bizarrely, whilst managing to leave out "Disarm" and "1979" they did manage to play "the star spangled banner" and a 20 minute instrumental that I'm pretty sure no-one cared about to close.
Very dissapointing night.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
I thought the opposite soupman. I thought it was terrific. I don't know how familiar with the newer Pumpkins stuff but thought it was mixed in quite well with their popular tracks. His interaction with the crowd was much better than 2008 were there was virtually none and I thought they responded to that which made it a better show. If you were just going to see a "Best of" show then yeah you might be disappointed but I'm a big time Pumpkins fan and I loved the set list.

A Song For a Son

Bullet With Butterfly Wings

Encore:
Landslide
Gossamer
I'll admit though I was disappointed when they started Gossamer in the encore. The 2 shows so far in Oz ended with that and when it started I knew the show was over after the 20 minute instrumental.Comment

Re: Recent Gigs & Upcoming ones
If it was a band I was a big fan of and one I knew ore songs from I probably wouldn't have minded as much, and we missed the start cause they started so early which only made it worse. That meant I missed out on "Today" as well which was a song I wanted to hear. It's kind of like Metallica not playing "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters".I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment
